Tonight filming begins in the historic once pirate filled streets of Poole in the UK. See previous post for some pics. Tomorrow we’re in a park doing a dream scene and then next Wednesday we’re back in Poole to do a scene outside a secret club. There’s literally a couple of shots after that and the short is finished. Expect some pictures from the set soon!

Though the current short is being shot with the Ikonoskop A-CAM the files it produces are big and need heavy grading and there’s a few up coming projects I need more instant results from. Step in the Panasonic GH2 with hardware hack, I shot this video is to see what it’s capable of.

This is a little short I made from some footage I took whilst in Hawaii as part of my recent trip across the US. It’s a homage to one of the most awesome places on earth I’ve ever had the privilege to experience.

After taking a break from filming in September for a long awaited and ridiculously amazing trip across the US, I got back to the UK and was then promptly struck down by an old injury which started playing up. Unfortunately finishing The Last Line had to be pushed back but now I’m pleased to say is gearing up again for the final shoot. On a side note development of next years feature film script is coming on leaps and bounds thanks to the down time!

Finally I’ve had time to get up some more stills from the first scene we shot. The scene takes place in the gypsy tent featuring the stars of the movie, Kay and Anna, otherwise known as Cheri and Madam Zorab.. We erected a 3 meter square gazebo in my lounge to create the gypsy tent.. needless to say it got pretty hot in there with all the lights!

These are the first stills from my work in progress short film “The Last Line”. The pics are from the movie camera and were given a rough grade. So far I’m pretty happy with the way it’s looking! The scene involved about 12 extras plus 3 talent and took the whole day to set up. There were only 3 crew!!

Abandoned night club..

This week we managed to swing an abandoned night club for one of the locations in the film, which I’m really excited about. The place is a mess and falling apart, great! I could write a whole film set in the strange old hangout which spreads over 3 floors and apparently used to be a mormon church. What’s more the guys who have the lease are very cool and helpful, they’re part of an art collective putting on an gallery show in the club to which my artist wife Donna (and co-producer) will hopefully be showing at as a result of the find. Double score!

Alan Watts' old stomping ground

After a hectic summer day in London I was finally able to get some filming done for the new Alan Watts documentary I’m helping with. He used to haunt the streets around the museum as a small boy, so off I went to get a feel for the place and some shots. I’m sure it was never quite so over run with school children from every continent and there weren’t so many road works back then but the area still has it’s charm and civilised beauty we brits are so good at. Next stop Canterbury!

Meet Kay..

Our star lead for The Last Line has been cast. Kay Rimmington a drama teacher from Christchurch will be playing the lead role of beatnik writer Cheri in our up coming production. After her impressive audition we kind of really new instantly it was going to be her. In fact, I personally had a good feeling after just seeing the photo above in casting. So congrats Kay! More rehearsals are planned soon and we should be shooting the first scenes before the end of this month. Watch this space!

I’m pleased to announce that pre-production has begun on a new React Films short film called The Last Line. The story centers around a young writer called Cheri who is struggling to finish her latest piece. With a deadline of the following morning, that night she embarks on surreal journey into a shadowy world of fortune tellers, jazz, beatniks and dreams in order to find inspiration for the last line of her story.

Written and being produced and directed by myself, Ross Wilson, the film should enter principle photography around mid June 2011.
